Ho Chi Minh... Part two!

March 17 - 19

We spent an extra night in Ho Chi Minh mostly because we wanted to go to the war museum. Every raves about!

But first... Some shopping!! I bought everything I could possibly have needed - including some new runners, a couple of sports bras, a little purse (so I don't have to carry my wallet around everywhere!) and new headphones, to the replace the ones that broke immediately after landing in Vietnam.

Then we wandered around and sampled some Bahn Mi!! Yuuuum: a variety of pork, cucumber and some herbs stuffed into a baguette. Definitely not fructose free. Definitely delicious.

We attempted to go to the palace, but it was closed!

We spent the afternoon roaming the war museum. I particularly enjoyed the photography section, where stories were told, based upon pictures from the war.

A part of the photography section was dedicated to the after affects of agent orange - all the deformed babies. Incredibly heart breaking.

One particularly confronting section was the 'Crimes of War' where we learnt about the horrific things Americans and Vietnamese extremists had done to innocent families, including small children.

Another interesting part was the prison, where we saw the chambers and read about the torture inflicted on prisons of the war.

In the evening we got food at the markets again, and hunted down sticky rice for dessert. On our way back we sat down in the park, watching local kids roller skate. There always seems to be something going on at night in that park, from fitness classes like Zumba to roller blading and other sports. Some local guys came and sat down with us, wanting to practice their English. We found out from them that we paid too much for everything we'd bought at the markets! However.. No matter how much we barter, I don't think we'll ever get as low prices as the locals!
